I am a rock star. Ok, ok, I am in a band with a rock star. I am also a husband, father of three daughters, and a small business owner who pays his taxes like anyone else. I never got into politics until the last election and wrote and produced a non-partisan PSA video for Comcast called “Get Out and Vote” to help assuage voter apathy throughout this ailing nation. I didn’t vote for either one of the major candidates in 2008. I am all about trying to rally everyone to start voting again so we can possibly support a third political party that makes sense. If we can educate and get people out to the polls again, I believe that there could be a groundswell of voters who could turn the tides in future elections. We need a party “by the people and for the people”. As corny as that sounds, it is a precept that our nation was founded upon and if we are to lift up and resuscitate this suffocating political system, we are going to need a leader who actually leads rather than folds like a cheap stroller just to please his parties’ special interests.
American Idol has changed the way we look at talent in the music business and has replaced the old system of record companies, Svengali star-maker managers, and under-the-table payola incentives. With the power of the internet and texting, everyday people actually have a say now on who will win and who will get the big push and who will not.
This is brilliant. No wonder Rupert Murdock’s daughter told him to buy the rights to the show from England and bring it over here. Why can’t we as voters do the same thing with the way we run this country!?
Think of it. An internet server attached to a new political party who can participate in voter polls to select issues and candidates alike even before an election takes place. The party by the people and for the people has power to select their own representative by popular internet voting, not unlike American Idol, which keeps the issues at large in check, by letting the people drive their own ship. Now the poli-pundits will say this comparison is like a frivolous “Hollywood game show stunt” not concerned with world issues, and no way to run a political party, but why not? The party would still need a strong leader to keep the issues focused and be non-partisan within the party so-to-speak, but would be a true spokesperson for the people for a change! Your thoughts?

Kenny, I think this makes sense… even if only to show the media that how they cover things (polls etc) are not the ONLY way to measure/show/influence public opinion. Keep up the good work.

I’m suggesting a fixit right here in my blog. Get people together through a huge cell texting contingent to vote on issues and platforms for a third party years prior to an election. Invent the candidate through the people choice by polling and internet participation. Maybe charge like a nominal $10 fee to be involved with the voting which can be used for campaign contributions. Any party affiliation could join! Then once issues and policies have been elected upon, have members come forward to be nominated, no different than running for an HOA for cryin’ out loud! Then vote on the candidate, and send the winner on the debate trail against those sniveling Democrats and self-entitled Republicans. Then we could have a true elected official to represent the people by the people!

Finally someone has followed my vision mentioned here in my blog and has started a website called http://www.americaselect.com. It is a non-partisan solution to getting around the stranglehold of the Reps and Dems as far as their monopoly on campaign raising and dominating the media and the polls. A real “for the people, by the people” plan that allows us to vote on issues and platforms first online, then select a candidate that would champion those issues with our own online convention with us as the delegates. This is not a third party but a way of “picking a president, not a party!” Please make a donation and join up so we can finally take back the liberty as voters we all deserve.
